I have used your program a couple of times and I like it very much.
Q: although I select 'black and white' to print out the pattern, I empty a whole cartridge by the time I finish...I think because of the grey background in the squares.
Is there any possibility to make the patterns just with black symbols on a white background? I think it was always like that but it's changed.
I don't know if I make myself clear on this, haha! It's hard to explain writing it.

The black and white patterns still use a white background. But in the past it was an image while it is now printed as a special text font. It could be your printer uses more ink to print fonts than to print drawings.

One way to save ink is to use the Pattern Keeper app https://patternkeeper.app/ Instead of printing the pattern, you load the PDF in the app and use the app to keep track of your stitching efforts.
